History of the Catalina Island Company

The Catalina Island Company was incorporated in October of 1894 by the Banning Brothers: Hancock Banning, Joseph Banning, and William Banning. The brothers placed the title of the Catalina Island lands they purchased two years earlier in the company. They planned to develop the island as a resort and much of the town of Avalon was developed by them. William Wrigley Jr. acquired a majority interest in the Catalina Island Company in 1919.
